➡️ JUDE LAW – Actor, Philanthropist & Peace Activist

Jude Law is a prime example of how global influence can be used as a force for good. After making a name for himself as a multi-award-winning actor in film, theatre, and television, Jude began using his international reach to make a difference off-screen.

Law is a vocal supporter of numerous charitable causes and a longstanding ambassador for Peace One Day and the Prince of Wales' Children and the Arts Foundation. He is also the chairman of the Music For Tomorrow Foundation.

His philanthropy and advocacy for peace have led him to work closely alongside organisations including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Make Poverty History, and Macmillan Cancer.

Issues close to his heart include climate change, fossil fuel company accountability, peace, animal rights, refugee rights, ending the AIDS/HIV epidemic, freedom of expression, and various other humanitarian causes.

Peace One Day

Peace One Day is a UK nonprofit organisation with a mission to expose as many people as possible to the message of International Peace Day. It is a global initiative dedicated to promoting peace and reducing violent conflict in a world experiencing the highest number of conflicts since 1945.

Founded by filmmaker Jeremy Gilley in 1999, the initiative has spread the message of peace to 116 countries. During the 2019 20th anniversary celebration, #PeaceDay was circulated by 19 million X users!

By raising awareness and uniting individuals, communities, and organisations, they foster tolerance and understanding, directing attention towards conflict resolution and non-violent solutions. The work of Peace One Day has been instrumental in new resolution processes concerning peace efforts.

Compared to other days in the year, September 21, 2022, recorded a 15% decrease in deaths, a remarkable feat for both Peace One Day and the UN.

Peace One Day has organised 38 major celebrations over the years. Previous concerts have included performances by high-profile musicians including Annie Lennox, Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, James Morrison, Maria Carey, and Sting.

As well as concerts, Peace One Day has also organised high-profile campaigns for Peace Day in sports, dance and education. They have worked alongside huge brands such as Adidas, Puma, Coca-Cola, Innocent Drinks, Burger King, Unilever, and Lipton Iced Tea.

One of their most successful campaigns to date came in 2007. With the help of WHO, UNICEF and the Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health, 1.4 million children were administered the lifesaving polio vaccine. By 2010, the campaign had successfully immunised 4.5 million children.

With Peace One Day, Jude Law has travelled to conflict zones like Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo to witness firsthand the impact of ceasefires. He has supported the organisation for nearly two decades, working closely alongside Gilley to raise awareness and drive engagement.

Activism & Philanthropy

Jude Law is well-known for his philanthropic endeavours and support for charities which cover a wide range of causes, including children's education, children with autism, humanitarian aid in conflict zones, food banks, environmental protection, theatre and the arts, and the refugee crisis.

In 2016, his charitable work earned him the prestigious Sir Ian McKellen Award. The prize celebrated his commitment to making a difference in children's lives through the arts, particularly through Only Make Believe, a nonprofit which creates and performs theatre for children in hospitals.

Never one to sit on the sidelines, Law is well known for playing an active role in the organisations he supports. During the Peace One Day Afghanistan campaign, he was on the ground supporting the vaccination drive and shooting a documentary to help raise awareness of the impact of ceasefires.

In 2011, he took to the streets to protest against the dictatorship of Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus. His defence of their freedom of speech and freedom of the press led to all of his films being banned in the country.

In 2016, as part of a campaign to support child refugees and family reunification for children growing up in the Calais 'Jungle' refugee camp, Jude visited the site multiple times to gain more media traction. At the time, the UK government was planning a partial demolition of the camp.

As part of his animal advocacy work, alongside PETA, he launched Jude Laws Seal Appeal. At the start of Canada's brutal annual seal slaughter, he contacted the World Trade Organisation to urge them to uphold the ban on seal-fur imports, which makes the seal slaughter commercially unviable and saves the lives of thousands of baby seals.

Closer to home, he helps less fortunate children experience the joys of theatre by providing free theatre tickets to children in Southeast London, making the arts much more accessible.

Jude Law stands out in a world of fickle fame and money-hungry celebrities. He uses the limelight to amplify media attention on the issues that matter most, and then raises funds for effective solutions.

He is a shining example of using fame for good, and we hope that his continued good work serves as a role model for others in similar situations of influence.
