➡️ ZACK POLANSKI – Popular Green Party Leader & Potential Threat to Labour

After joining the Green Party in 2017, Polanski's popularity and determination saw him quickly rise through the ranks. Polanski was previously the Deputy Leader of the Greens from 2022-2025 and already sits on the London Assembly, an elected body of advisors who hold the Mayor of London to account.

On 2 September 2025, with 85% of the vote, Polanski was elected as leader of the Green Party in a landslide victory. Since he took leadership, membership of the Green Party in England and Wales has almost doubled, reaching 100,000 for the first time.

Hailing from Salford, Polanski is openly and proudly both Jewish and Gay. He has vowed to 'take the fight to Labour' with his new platform based on bold communication and eco-populism.

A big part of Polanski's appeal is his determination to challenge Reform UK's frankly terrifying political narrative whilst also benefiting from the population's disillusionment with the Labour Party.

Prior to joining the Greens, Polanski stood as a Liberal Democrat council candidate. He left after seeing the increasing success of the Green Party and finally seeing a party 'delivering real change in London'.

Polanski hosts a weekly political podcast, 'Bold Politics', where he discusses progressive ideas to reshape Britain's future with various activists, thinkers, and cultural figures. He was recently named in Time Magazine's 2025 100 Next Influential Rising Stars list.

Zack Polanski's Key Standpoints

Combining environmental politics and social justice, Polanski is often described as an eco-populist, firmly on the left of the political spectrum. His participation in and subsequent arrest at an Extinction Rebellion protest in 2019 is proof that he isn't afraid of putting himself on the frontline.

Since his election, Polanski has stated his immediate priority is securing a Wales Green Party seat in the next Senedd election. He plans to pave the way for systematic change that benefits both people and the planet.

"My politics is about tackling inequality. Providing a voice for the marginalised to hold those with excess wealth and power to account" - Zack Polanski

He has shown support for:

  • Electoral reform and a move away from the First Past the Post system to a representative democracy.

  • Urgently addressing the cost-of-living crisis, curbing private landlords, and imposing a tax on the rich.

  • A humanitarian approach to immigration which celebrates their contributions to society.

  • An arms embargo on Israel to end the war in Gaza and the UK's complicity with the genocide of the people of Palestine.

  • A firm climate policy with a focus on renewable energy, carbon reduction, and a just energy transition. He opposes the development of the Rosebank oil field.

  • Enhancing public transport infrastructure and renationalising services, especially water.

  • A critical reassessment of the UK's involvement with NATO and the U.S. He criticises the gigantic defence alliance, stating that it prioritises militarism over diplomacy and has deep concerns over Donald Trump's stance on Gaza.

The Future of the Green Party

The new levels of membership that the Green Party has experienced since the Polanski takeover has left many hopeful that he can turn this momentum into actual power.

British voters have long been stuck in a two-party system, and with it becoming harder and harder to tell the Labour Party and the Conservatives apart, next year's general election is set to be an interesting one.

Nigel Farage's Reform UK have been gaining traction since their significant success at the 2024 election. Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana's Your Party could also be contenders if they can get past their differences and solidify their constitution.

One thing is for sure, the 2026 UK general election will provide citizens with a real choice. Stay tuned for further updates.
