SEAN MACBRIDE PEACE PRIZE 2026

Freedom Flotilla Coalition, Global Sumud Flotilla & Nuestra América Convoy

“They crossed borders and seas not with weapons, but with food, medicine, conscience and hope, reminding us that peace demands courage and action. They sailed against the tide of continuing war on the Palestinian and Cuban peoples - and proved that solidarity can become a force stronger than any blockade” - Cora Fabros, Co-President of the IPB.

This year's prize was jointly awarded to three initiatives working across borders to challenge blockades, highlight their dire humanitarian consequences, and demonstrate the power of international solidarity.

Freedom Flotilla Coalition & Global Sumud Flotilla

Organised by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Global Sumud Flotilla, more than 70 boats and 3,000 participants from 100 countries set sail in a powerful symbol of solidarity with Palestinians and their plight against Israel’s genocide campaign.

In light of the severity of medicide stripping the population of healthcare (including vital infrastructure, medicines, and access to healthcare professionals), the flotilla carried a dedicated medical fleet of 1,000 healthcare professionals, carrying vital supplies to help Gaza’s decimated healthcare system. The ships set sail from various points in Europe but were quickly intercepted by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).

They are already regrouping, raising funds, repairing vessels, and preparing for their next attempt at breaking the blockade.

Nuestra América Convoy

Inspired by the flotillas to Gaza, the Nuestra América Convoy has brought international attention and solidarity to the humanitarian impact of the U.S. blockade of Cuba, where people are struggling under severe blackouts, fuel shortages, and economic hardship.

The flotilla achieved its objective, delivering roughly 20 to 35 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, including food, medical items, hygiene products, and solar panels and generators, to the island.

The campaign was supported by 650 delegates from over 33 countries and 120 organisations, including high-profile figures such as Jeremy Corbyn, Hasan Piker, and the Irish band Kneecap.
