About Dr Norbert Stute

  • Occupation: Specialist in internal medicine and haematology with over 40 years of medical experience; most recently working as a senior physician in Salzburg.
  • Medical focus areas: Malignant blood diseases and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, personalised individual patient care.
  • Education: Studied medicine in Aachen and Würzburg. Received funding from the German National Academic Foundation.
  • Research: Doctoral thesis in pharmacology (U. Trendelenburg), PhD in Medicine with magna cum laude. Postdoctoral fellowship at the renowned St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (WE Evans) in Memphis, TN. Various laboratory projects funded by the German Cancer Aid and the Erich & Gertrud Roggenbuck Foundation.
  • Research areas: Catecholamines, pharmacokinetics, in vitro testing of leukaemia cells, adult stem cells (MSCs) and clinical BMT studies.
  • Publications: Dr Stute has published scientific papers as first author in renowned, peer-reviewed journals, including Naunyn-Schmiedeberg’s Archives of Pharmacology, the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, Experimental Haematology, the Journal of Hematotherapy & Stem Cell Research, Haematologica, and the American Journal of Haematology.   • Work: As a clinician and scientist, he worked at the university hospitals in Münster (H. Jürgens), Dresden (G. Ehninger), Hamburg (A. Zander), Essen (D.W. Beelen) and Salzburg (R. Greil), as well as for several years at hospitals in England (J. Snowden) and Ireland (S. McCann).

  • Founding: The non-profit internet project was launched in 1996 by Dr. Norbert Stute from Hagen.
  • Subject: The platform offers quick access to over 750,000 hand-picked links and informative texts on future-oriented topics. It brings together knowledge for a better world in one place. The service is free, ad-free, and bilingual (German and English).
  • Concept: Better World Info serves as a central information platform for a better world and as a digital directory that informs and connects citizens and activists.
  • Vision: Norbert’s goal is to encourage people to actively shape a fairer and more sustainable world by providing reliable information and inspiring content.
  • Staff: The small but dedicated team at Better World Info is committed to positive change. You can be a part of it too. Join us!
  • Publications: Norbert's work with Better World Info is published in Common Dreams, Transnational, Science & Peace, the Peace Cooperative Network, Peace Magazine, Pressenza, Sonnenseite, and Telepolis. He was a key contributor for the 2025 Peace One Day global event and took part in the 2025 IPB Global Peace Wave.
  • Structure & Financing: This ambitious project has been entirely self-financed from the outset. Better World Info makes an important contribution to civil society and has been established as a globally active non-profit organisation in Salzburg since February 2025.
  • Open to collaboration: Experts and NGOs are expressly invited to contribute their experience and knowledge. Volunteers are welcome!

The Formative Years

School Years

  • Time in Hagen - Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium.
  • Member of the Protestant Church, influenced by the New Testament and Sermon on the Mount.
  • “Let all things be done in love, and let us pursue that which makes for peace” - Confirmation verse.
  • Memories: The French Revolution (History), Book: “Rule through Language” (German), and the Elect Willy (Brandt) campaign.
  • Books by Karl May (Winnetou & Old Shatterhand) and touched by Kung Fu TV series.
  • Practitioner of Judo, Ju-Jutsu, and Karate, including their ethos.

Study Years

  • Time in Aachen - Member of Physicians Against Nuclear War (IPPNW) and first-year student mentor.
  • Books: “Siddhartha” - Hesse and “To Be or To Have” - Fromm
  • Time in Würzburg - Medical Student Association, influenced by political events in El Salvador and Nicaragua, and peace movement protests to the NATO Double-Track Decision.
  • Guided by Franz Rauhut (pacifist) and the antiwar book “Man is Good” - Leonhard Frank
  • Medical internship in Gandhigram in Tamil Nadu. Influenced by the book “For Pacifists” - Gandhi
  • Practical Year spent in Dublin, Glasgow, and London. Became aware of CND.

Professional Years

  • Became a conscientious objector by completing the oral conscientious objection procedure and civilian service in a hospital in Marburg.
  • Time in Dresden - Human Rights in Tibet (Dalai Lama), and initiated the Eurofighter Information Leaflet campaign.
  • Protestant Church Days: Market of opportunities with NGOs.
  • Membership with Amnesty, Greenpeace, and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
  • Established Norbert’s Bookmarks for Dedicated People in 1996.
  • Book: “The Eyes of the Eternal Brother” - Stefan Zweig
